Round six is set

Booked Revere - Concorde today. Got a 11am tee time. Its going to be HOT! This will be the first round that I play with my new putter and the Demo club from GolfTec.

Should be fun, this is a new course to me. I've played Lexington before with my friend Dan, which is funny because he's playing with us this time. Concorde has whats been rated the number one finishing hole in Vegas. At least a few times it been awarded that. So it should be a good time.

A driver, fit to a tee

GolfTec = Awesome! Lame, I know, but it’s true. What a neat experience. When I got there the pro was ending up a session with another client so I had to wait just a few minutes before heading back to the training room. It’s a nice place. The have a putting green that you can putt on with some very nice putters. Also the Golf Channel was on the TV in the lobby and there were plenty of golf magazines to pass the time.

We got back to the room and he told me to just grab an iron and take some warm up swings to loosen up. While I was doing that he was inputting all of my information in to the computer system they use. After about 15 swings I was feeling pretty good and he said to go ahead and get my driver out. I hit unit we got 10 good drives logged into the computer, took about 15 swings, but I was happy it didn’t take 25!

He explained that now that my results are logged in with my old driver we will be able to compare them to stats with a different one. He used a special shaft that calculates swing speed and shaft flex/torque and logged that in. Based on what I had done with my driver and the results from the swing speed/torque test the computer spat out 5 drivers that it recommended I try. I was asked by the pro if there was any particular brand that I was interested in. My response was, “I don’t care if it says CHUCK NORRIS in the club as long as I can hit it straight.” He was happy with that response. A lot of people come in hear with the intent of purchasing a certain club and are disappointed when they can’t hit it. He told me.

First up was the Ping G15, I have Ping irons so I was excited about hitting this one. It was ok, I didn’t impress too much, hit some decent drives but not too many. Next up was the TaylorMade (don’t remember the model name) I hit it so bad, that’s all I’m going to mention. Then he brought out the Callaway FT9. I knew from the first swing I had found my new driver. It felt so good, the ball was flying off the face and I was consistently hitting 250-260. I think I swung it 12 times, and had 12 great shots! I tried the new Callaway Diablo and another TaylorMade, but nothing compared to the FT9.

Everything took about an hour to do. The Pro was great, had an awesome attitude and was very funny. What they are able to do with computers now a days is amazing. As we were wrapping up the session he asked if I would like to take the club that I tested and demo it to see if I would be interested in buying it. I said HELL YEAH! The only problem was I wasn’t planning on playing again until the 11th and they only allowed Demo clubs out for 7 days. “No problem” he told me “just be sure to bring the club back as soon as you can.”

Now I’m really excited. I’ve got to get that tee time booked for the 11th of next month as soon as I can.

A new website I'm addicted to...

I have a new friend. Its called ClubSG, it's part of the SkyCaddie website. You can input your numbers from your round and view tons of stats. I'm a stats junkie. MUST HAVE STATS. I like to be able to see if I'm making progress from more than just my scores. There are so many factors that go into a round of golf. This should be fun.

I have a link to the SkyCaddie website, you should check it out. Oh yeah, its FREE!! Unless you want to track more than just basic info. Another feature that I like a lot is the handicap. It will calculate your handicap for you.

Wow, really.

So I get a call today from the GolfTec guy about an hour before my appointment. "Hey Matt, I'm sorry but there has been a scheduling mix up and the time I scheduled you in for on Monday is not available, can we reschedule, again?"

I immediatly started thinking that because of the web special this place has no interest at all in fitting me for a driver, and this was their plan to get rid of me. Right after that thought my whole perception of GolfTec changed forever.

"I know that this is the second time that I have had to call you and reschedule, so to make it up to you I'm not going to charge you for the session, would that be OK?" Honestly can you say no to that. So I agreed and now the appointment is set up for the 30th after work.

Damn you GolfTec!

Range was ok the other night, not what I'm looking for, but I am loving the new putter!

Bad new is GolfTec called and had to cancel the appointment I made, the person I made the appoinment with had to leave town on a family emergency. This was an hour before I was supposed to show up! We rescheduled for the 28th after work.

Taste in my mouth is getting worse.
